FITNESS FOR SERVICE USING BSI PD6493 &
API 579
Performed several finite element analyses to check the structural
integrity of three heat exchangers. The exchangers were evaluated
for the existing wall surface cracks and an estimated life for
the cracks was determined. The study considered steady state operations
as well as transient start up conditions using finite element
analysis. The resulting maximum stress intensities from the steady
state operating conditions and the transient start up conditions
were compared to ASME Section VIII, Division 2 Code, using ASME
Section VIII Division 1 allowable stresses. For the crack evaluation/analysis,
the BSI PD6493 & API 579 were used.
